The Art of Teaching Defined

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY by Dr. Bridges

The academic profession's fundamental premise is relationship-based. I believe relationships are vital to the teaching profession. I am passionate about developing those relationships through teaching, mentoring, training, and professional development of youth, adults at all levels, from first-year college students to working professionals from many cultures and backgrounds. Teaching is about inspiring and transformation, and I believe that students want to know you care before they are concerned about what you know. Teaching is more than skill acquisition, gaining assets. Still, it is about being the change you expect by inspiring others through critical analysis that starts with oneself and results in positive change. Teaching is a form of mentoring, and mentoring is all about relationships. "You have to look past where the kids come from and meet them where they are. One of our greatest assets is using our abilities to add value to someone else's life and positively impact others.  If we can reach just one, that impact is enormous because the youth are our future.

The Art of Teaching by Dr. Santarvis Brown

Teaching is an art form, and teachers are skilled artisans. Teachers are able to take a blank canvas and create intellectual masterpieces by meeting their students at their levels while increasing their capacities and capabilities. Through meaningful engagement and impactful nurturing, they are able to help students see they really weren't blank canvases after all.

The art of teaching is adapting to all learners' capabilities and effectively mastering the needs of the individual. Establishing a positive student-teacher relationship sets the tone for belonging, engaging, and performing in the classroom environment. The art of teaching is creating skill sets of individuals so they can attain new concepts. The art of teaching is intentional.

The Art of Teaching by Dr. Sonja Parnell

The Art of Teaching is knowing that as an educator, you are creating lifetime impressions upon the individuals whom you encounter. Just as an artist molds clay into a masterpiece or fills an empty canvas with an unforgettable portrait, the educator is crafting minds through lessons taught, actions modeled, and most importantly, words spoken, for it is these words that our students will take with them throughout their lives. The Art of Teaching is an awareness that educators wittingly or unwittingly hold a power that can positively or negatively change someone’s life forever!

The Art of Teaching by Dr. Larry D. Parker Jr.

The art of teaching is an ever-evolving practice of effective transference of knowledge to others. This art of teaching manifests in two ways; a dynamic pedagogy that engages the learner with the most effective learning method and second, facilitating true learning by lowering the learner's conceptual guard to new paradigms and competing views to accept new facts.

 TEACHING PHILOSOPHY by Dr. Wider

Teaching is like fine art.  Just like pieces of art can be unique yet similar, so are students. Furthermore, just like an artist understands which tools to best utilize to convey the meaning behind his or her work, for an Instructor to be effective, he or she must understand the best type of learning methods to utilize to ensure concepts are conveyed.

When we understand the purpose of teaching; it really does have a significant impact on our students and their development.
